Earth Day 2015 "It's our turn to lead"
04/22/2015
22.4.2015 – Earth Day is officially celebrated since 1992 when, during the UN Conference on Environment and Development in Rio de Janeiro attended by a large number of representatives of governments and non-governmental organizations, a long-range program for the promotion of sustainable development was harmonized. At the suggestion of the Bolivian government in 2009, the General Assembly of the United Nations has declared April 22 as the International Day of the planet Earth.
The theme of this year's Earth Day is "It’s our turn to lead." Polluting the environment, inappropriately consuming natural resources and rejecting to do recycling activities, people have become the biggest opponents of the Planet. The goal of marking this date is to draw attention to the importance of respecting the laws of nature and the survival of the Planet.
Celebration of this day is directed towards the protection of the natural resources of our planet and is aimed at drawing attention to the dangers that threaten life on Earth due to the increase of global pollution.
On the occasion of this year's Day, it is pointed out that 2015 could be one of the most important years for environmental protection. It is expected that a binding agreement to limit the rise in global temperatures will be adopted at the Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Climate Change, which will be held later this year in Paris.
International Earth Day will be celebrated today around the world with various events in order to draw attention of the citizens to the importance of preserving nature and to avoiding negative consequences on the environment.
The aim of celebrating this date is to raise the alarm on the dangers that threaten life on Earth, ecosystems and urban areas, due to the development of industry, increased energy consumption, global warming and climate change.
This significant date is celebrated so that the world population would become aware of its responsibility to the planet and so to reduce its impact on the environment.
Numerous actions and events are organised today in the world with the aim of raising environmental awareness, educating and motivating citizens to get actively involved in the struggle for survival of the Planet.
Experts warn that in addition to industrial and technological development, human activity has led to dramatic environmental pollution.
Biologists warn that a large number of plant and animal species worldwide is facing extinction, which would lead to serious disruption of the entire ecosystem and biodiversity.
As key causes of the extinction, biologists cite habitat destruction by human activity, uncontrolled exploitation of resources of the Earth and its flora and fauna as well as environmental pollution.
