Minister Košarac and Ambassador Field Talked about Current Topics and Remediation of The Corona Virus Consequences

The Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH Staša Košarac talked today with the Ambassador of the United Kingdom to BiH, Matthew Field, about the current epidemiological situation and the consequences of the coronavirus epidemic on the economy in BiH.

 

Minister Košarac said that all levels of government in BiH are making maximum efforts in preventing and combating the epidemic, emphasizing that the key priority is to protect the health of citizens and preserve the stability of the health system in the country.

 

He informed Ambassador Field about the activities and measures that the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH is taking in cooperation with the relevant entities’ ministries to repair the negative effects of the corona virus on local economic capacities. In that context, the interlocutors assessed that it was extremely important in the current epidemiological situation to form a list of vital products that have facilitated traffic at defined border crossings between CEFTA Parties thanks to the Green Priority Lanes system.

 

Speaking about the need to protect domestic producers, Minister Košarac pointed out that the placement of their products on new markets is one of the aid measures, especially when it comes to surpluses in production. He reminded that BiH was recently approved to export pork to Northern Macedonia, and that in cooperation with entity ministries and relevant agencies, through contacts with the European Commission, is sought the possibility of enabling BiH to transport live cattle through the port of Ploče to third country markets.

 

At the meeting it was expressed the readiness of Great Britain to help BiH in repairing the negative consequences of the corona virus, especially when it comes to domestic tourist capacities.

 

The interlocutors agreed, among other things, that it is necessary to continue activities on signing an agreement on the continuation of trade between BiH and Great Britain, since this country is no longer a member of the EU.
