Minister Sarovic at meeting with Minister of Agriculture of Republic of Croatia Tihomir Jakovina and Minister of Environmental and Nature Protection Mihael Zmajlovic

Sarovic: “Export of products of animal origin from Bosnia and Herzegovina to Croatia will not stop after 1.1.2013….”

November 19th, 2012 – A delegation from Bosnia and Herzegovina led by Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH, Mr. Mirko Sarovic met today with a delegation from the Republic of Croatia led by Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Croatia, Mr. Tihomir Jakovina in Zagreb (R. Croatia).

The topics of the meeting were current issues related to the smooth flow of goods in both directions, and export to R. Croatia after 1.1.2013.

The meeting also focused on the marketing of agricultural goods from Bosnia and Herzegovina on the Croatian market by July 1st, 2013, and current issues related to the increased control at border crossings and the cross border traffic of goods of plant origin.

It was agreed that at the beginning of 2013 the export of products of animal origin from Bosnia and Herzegovina to Croatia would not stop. Namely, the time limits for trade under the provisions of CEFTA 2006 Agreement will be extended and brought as close as possible to July 1st, 2013, and thereby Bosnia and Herzegovina will get a few more months to comply with EU standards in order to ensure the conditions for the continuation of exports to the EU.

The parties also agreed to prepare an agreement which would regulate cross-border traffic and a memorandum on further cooperation in agriculture and veterinary medicine which would be applied after Croatia's accession to the EU.

The BiH delegation was composed of, on behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH, Minister Mirko Sarovic, Assistant Minister for Agriculture, Food, Forestry and Rural Development Dusan Neskovic, Director of the Veterinary Office of BiH Ljubomir Kalaba and Director of the Plant Health Administration of BiH Radenko Radovic; from the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Water Management and Forestry the present were Minister Jerko Ivankovic-Lijanovic and his Adviser, Suad Čamdžić, and from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management of the Republic of Srpska Assistant Minister for Veterinary Medicine Radmila Cojo and Assistant Minister for Agriculture Zoran Kovacevic.

During his stay in Zagreb, Minister Sarovic also met with Minister of Environmental and Nature Protection of the Republic of Croatia, Mr. Mihael Zmajlovic. They talked about the Agreement in the field of environmental protection that the two counties should conclude and about the upcoming meeting between representatives from the Republic of Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina in Brod.

Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the Republic of Croatia, Ms. Azra Kalajdzisalihovic also attended the meetings with Minister Jakovina and Minister Zmajlovic.
