BiH CLEARED TO EXPORT EGGS TO THE EU
07/11/2019
Bosnia and Herzegovina has been granted a permit for the export of processing eggs to the European Union market. At the session of the Standing Committee on Plants, Animals, Food and Feed - Section “Controls and Import Conditions“, the European Commission gave a green light for the beginning of exports of this type of food from BiH to the EU.
Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH Mirko Šarović points out that, following the approval of the chicken meat export, the export of eggs is another success for Bosnia and Herzegovina's poultry sector, as well as for the entire food industry. “Following our months-long preparations, we managed to secure this permission from the European Commission. This is a significant success as the export of eggs will increase the competitiveness of the poultry sector and the overall production, not only regarding eggs but also the entire food industry. So far, none of the products containing eggs from Bosnia and Herzegovina could be exported to the EU. This problem has been solved now and producers of composite products such as pasta, bakery products, etc., can now export their products freely to the EU,” Sarovic said.
The final placing of Bosnia and Herzegovina on the list of countries approved for the export of processing eggs to the European Union market will follow in the coming weeks.
After obtaining approval for the export of processed eggs, it was planned to submit a request for a licence to export table eggs for which the precondition is the approval of the salmonella control programme.
Approving exports of table eggs is expected until autumn.
