At the invitation of the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Croatia Tihomir Jakovina, Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH Mirko Sarovic stayed in Biograd na Moru, on 13th and 14th September, 2012, where he attended an informal meeting of Ministers of Agriculture in Southeastern Europe.
On this occasion, Minister Sarović held several bilateral meetings with Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Croatia Tihomir Jakovina, Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Serbia Goran Knezevic and Minister of Agriculture of Montenegro Tarzan Milosevic, among others. Besides Minister Sarovic, other officials from Bosnia and Herzegovina who stayed in Biograd na Moru were Minister of Agriculture, Water Management and Forestry of the Federation of BiH, Jerko Ivankovic-Lijanovic , and Assistant Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management of the Republic of Srpska, Zoran Kovacevic.
At these meetings, the ministers discussed a common approach to the EU for food assistance, primarily due to the damage suffered by farmers because of the drought this year.
Minister Sarovic had a separate meeting with Minister Jakovina and Minister Knezevic on unilateral measures taken by their countries when it comes to the export of agricultural products, particularly barley, corn, soybeans and sunflowers, particularly with regard to the protection of BiH companies that had previously agreed and payed for certain amounts of these strategic commodities.
The Interlocutors expressed willingness to protect contracts signed earlier and it was agreed that similar meetings should be held in the future in order to better coordinate agricultural development and joint actions to overcome the difficulties faced by farmers in all three countries.
