Sixth Meeting of the Paries of the Framework Agreement on the Sava River Basin

On 01 July 2016, the 6th Meeting of the Parties of the Framework Agreement on the Sava River Basin – the Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Republic of Croatia, the Republic of Slovenia and the Republic of Serbia, was held in Belgrade. The meeting was attended by delegations of the countries of the Sava River Basin at the high ministerial level, and a number of representatives of the international community. Official delegations were led by Mr. Mirko Šarović, Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ms. Snežana Bogosavljević Bošković, Minister of Agriculture and Environment of the Republic of Serbia, Ms. Irena Majcen, Minister of Environment and Spatial Planning of the Republic of Slovenia and Ms. Elizabeta Kos, Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Croatia.

This international gathering, which is being held every two years, is of great importance for the improvement of the cross-border cooperation in the field of water, directing specific country activities and seeking common solutions for the sustainable development the Sava River Basin.

At the meeting they discussed key issues of importance for the implementation of the Framework Agreement, such as flood management in the basin, the restoration of navigation on the Sava River Waterway, the exchange of information and guidelines for further cooperation of the countries in the Basin. The results of previous work of the International Commission for the Sava River Basin were also presented, as well as joint results of the Sava River countries achieved in the implementation of the Framework Agreement. Parties of the Framework Agreement have also adopted the Joint Declaration, as a final act of the meeting which contains the agreed guidelines for further implementation of the Framework Agreement which is of interest for the development of the Sava Basin.

The next, 7^th meeting of the Parties of the Framework Agreement on the River Sava Basin will be held in 2018 in the Republic of Slovenia.
