Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mrs. Ermina Salkicevic-Dizdarevic is participating in the work of the Mediterranean Energy Forum held in Brussels on June 19 and 20, 2012. The Forum focuses on the development of energy infrastructure in Mediterranean countries with electricity interconnections, the presentation of the Mediterranean Solar Plan, and the presentation of the main findings and proposals for development policies.

The area of cooperation with Mediterranean countries involved in this project includes the exchange of information, updates on progress, joint assessment of potential synergies and joint efforts of Europe, the Middle East and North Africa on defining the level of regulatory framework to stimulate production of energy from renewable sources.

Beside 27 member states of the European Union, 16 countries of the southern Mediterranean, African and Middle Eastern countries are members of the UfM: Albania, Algeria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Mauritania, Monaco, Montenegro, Morocco, Palestinian Authority, Syria, Tunisia and Turkey.

It is important to note that last week the European Commission presented a Communication on its policy for renewable energy, opportunities for the period beyond the year 2020. This confirms the market integration of renewable energy sources and the need for growth in the decades after 2020.

Communication also calls for a higher level of coordinated European approach to establish and support the reform programs and increased use of renewable energy, trade between Member States and third countries, which is of great importance for Bosnia and Herzegovina because of the fulfillment of obligations under the Treaty establishing the Energy Community. Mediterranean Energy Forum ends on June 20, 2012.
