The initiative to clean and remove illegal landfills began ten years ago in the Republic of Estonia, when 5% of the population of the country joined the civil movement with the idea to clean the country of illegal waste for one day.

Today, this initiative has taken on a world-wide dimension, encompassing 150 countries around the world that conduct clean-up activities of unmanaged landfills within the world movement and the Let's Do It project. The essence and main message of this movement is to raise citizens' awareness of environmental issues and promote socially responsible behavior, and contribute to the achievement of the UN goals of sustainable development. All member states of this movement are invited to support this initiative and make additional efforts to improve the waste management system. This project is also supported through the United Nations Environment Program.

Bosnia and Herzegovina is also part of this movement and has been carrying out cleaning activities of illegal landfills based on voluntary actions organized by the Citizens Association "Ruke" (Hands) from Sarajevo and the Association of Citizens "Mozaik prijateljstva" (Friendship Mosaic) from Banja Luka. So far, the project has included 115 municipalities and cities, and the goal is to expand the movement to all municipalities and cities in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

A large cleaning campaign is planned for 15 September 2018, and a large tree planting campaign for 20 October 2018.
