MINISTER SAROVIC AT THE SUMMIT ON ENERGY LEADERSHIP IN ATHENS: IT IS IMPORTAN FOR BIH TO SECURE MULTIPLE GAS SUPPLY SOURCES
10/02/2019
The Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH, Mirko Sarovic is attending the First Annual Eastern Mediterranean Energy Priorities and Leadership Summit in Athens, dedicated to reliability of energy supply, gas corridors and the future of oil and gas supply.
At today's ministerial roundtable on energy developments in Southeast Europe, especially in the gas sector, Minister Sarovic emphasized that Bosnia and Herzegovina is lagging behind in adopting decisions on inclusion in strategic gas projects that are already underway and covering the area of the Western Balkans, such as the so-called "Turkish Stream” and the Ionian-Adriatic Gas Pipeline.
"In making strategic decisions, Bosnia and Herzegovina should be guided by its own need to provide more different sources of gas supply, which would provide the security of supply and greater competitiveness in terms of gas prices as well as benefits to end consumers," said Minister Sarovic by noting that "if we start thinking in this way, we will not have to fight internally about which pipeline is more important, as we do now."
It should be reminded that BiH does not have its own production of natural gas and is completely dependent on imports currently being made through one supply route.
